While I was walking to my sector, I began to see many signs of spring. The deer trail I follow cuts a patch of flowers in half. On one side there are many small and vibrant blue flowers, which are forget-me-nots, and one the other side are blue bugle flowers, which are stalks with multiple blooms coming from the stem and the flowers are an indigo color. Many bumblebees buzz around me and hover above the flowers. I continued walking watch the ground careful not to trip on a log or step in mud, when I suddenly hear leaves and bushes rattle. I look up to see a large female white-tailed deer standing on the hill about 30 feet in front of me staring at me. I stand frozen and stare back at her. She looks both scared and willing to stand her ground. I begin to take a few small steps forward and a tree breaks our intense gaze. To my surprise, she moves her head around the tree to continue staring at me. Then she aggressively stomps her foot and I take one step back. She then turns around and runs over the hill into the woods. I realize that she could have a baby nearby, so I look around and after a few minutes continue on my way to my sector.

Finally, when I got to my spot, I sat down on a fallen tree to observe the life around me. I am currently waiting for a large bush behind me to bloom its bright pink flowers in a few days. I also notice some white fungus growing on another tree, which I believe is a type of oak, but I’m not positive because it doesn’t have any leaves. The same tree also has sections of bark stripped off, maybe by a deer. I sit a little while longer, listening to the birds chirp and trying to find them in the trees. After sitting on there for a while, I stand up and carefully balance my notebook on the tree. I slowly start to walk on the soft ground, but I begin to slide with the soil down the remainder of the hill. However, I quickly catch myself on a branch and again start to walk. I step up onto a fairly large rock which is completely covered in moss and can see over the tall bushes. As I walk towards the tree, my legs brush up against many bushes, and due to last night’s rain, my legs are now very wet. Once underneath the slightly dying apple tree, the soft breeze blows some small petals onto the ground below. I reach up to look at a small cluster of flowers. The flowers are very beautiful. Many have 5 petals with white on the front side and light pink on the back, and yellow pollen in the center. The flowers smell so sweet and almost like vanilla. Smelling these sweet and beautiful blossoms reminds me how much I missed spring. Being out here, surrounded by nature, helps me to relax and forget about the stress of school, work, and in general, life.
